Garage Floor Brief · Polls
These polls ask visitors what they chose for their garage floor, what they budgeted, how much downtime they could tolerate, and what surprised them afterward.
Go to the pollsEvery poll below is answered by visitors planning garage flooring. Results update the moment you vote, one vote per poll per browser, and your own choices stay highlighted so you can compare them with everyone else's. Nothing here is a sales survey; use it to see which trade-offs other homeowners are weighing before you request estimates.

53%
of Americans use their garage or home workshop for DIY projects (2022)
The same CRAFTSMAN survey found 53% use the garage for DIY, 46% for automotive maintenance, 41% for woodworking and 33% for socializing. Floors that shed oil, sawdust and spills matter to more than half of owners.
CRAFTSMAN / Atomik Research survey, PR Newswire (2022)27.8%
of occupied U.S. homes (36.9 million) have a two-car attached garage (EIA RECS 2024)
The same RECS analysis estimates 36,856,000 homes with a two-car attached garage, 12,132,000 with one-car (9.2%) and 7,914,000 with three or more (6.0%). Installed stock context for why two-car is the pricing reference.
EIA 2024 RECS preliminary household microdata (May 2026) (2024)36%
of Americans say their garage is too cluttered to park a vehicle in (2022)
A CRAFTSMAN survey of 2,004 U.S. adults (Atomik Research, Sept–Oct 2022, ±2 points) found 36% can no longer park inside and 62% call the garage the most cluttered space in the home. A new floor is often the trigger for reclaiming the space.
CRAFTSMAN / Atomik Research survey, PR Newswire (2022)54%
of surveyed Houzz homeowners renovated in 2025; 50% plan to in 2026
The 2026 U.S. Houzz & Home Study reports 54% of surveyed homeowners renovated in 2025, 47% made repairs and 50% plan a renovation in 2026. Platform sample of Houzz users, not all U.S. households.
2026 U.S. Houzz & Home Study (2026)Published cost guides tell you what a floor should cost; they do not tell you what the person down the street chose or wished they had chosen. The polls fill that gap informally. Each is anonymous and takes a second. The results show the split among visitors to this site, which skews toward people actively planning a project, so read them as a room full of people with the same question rather than as a study.
The first group asks the core question: coating or tiles, and within coatings, whether the polyaspartic premium was worth it. The second group asks about use, since the CRAFTSMAN survey conducted by Atomik Research in 2022 found 53% of Americans use the garage for DIY projects and a floor that suits a workshop differs from one that suits parking. The third asks about the slab and preparation, the fourth about budget and quotes, and the fifth about downtime and season. For scale, Census data show 666,000 houses completed in 2024 with a two-car garage, which NAHB puts at 65% of new single-family homes.
As a distribution, not a recommendation. If most visitors chose polyaspartic, that reflects who visits a planning site and what installers in their markets push, not a finding that polyaspartic is right for your slab. The useful polls are the regret and surprise ones: what people found on the slab that changed the quote, and what they would do differently. Those are the questions to raise at your own site visit, and the preparation page explains the usual surprises.
For population-level figures the site relies on named sources and its own analysis of federal data. Our estimate from the EIA's 2024 household survey that 27.8% of occupied homes have a two-car attached garage, our finding that 32.0% of owner-occupied attached-garage homes keep a second refrigerator there, and NAHB's parking analysis are the kind of numbers that carry weight; a poll on this page is not. The two are shown together so the difference is clear.

Options are mutually exclusive and neutral so that a result means something. A poll that asks whether you love your new floor produces the answer you would expect. A poll that asks what you would change produces a list of preparation, edge, and schedule issues that a homeowner can act on. Where possible, the polls mirror the decisions on the comparison page and the inputs on the calculator, so you can see how others answered the same questions you are working through.
Downtime tolerance splits sharply between people who park inside and people who do not, which is the same split that decides epoxy versus polyaspartic. Budget answers cluster below the published midpoint until people have collected a proposal, then move up; that gap is the preparation cost most first-time buyers leave out. It also fits the published spread: Angi's guide prices a 500-square-foot garage coating at $1,500–$6,000, and labor makes up 33–60% of an installed price. And the surprise poll is dominated by two answers, an old sealer found under paint and a moisture reading over the limit, which is why the preparation page leads with both.
None of that replaces a site visit, but it tells you which questions to bring to one. If most people who chose tiles cite a damp slab, and your slab is damp, that is a signal to ask for a moisture number before any coating proposal is written.
Take the quiz if the poll results made you second-guess a choice, or go straight to the request form if they confirmed it. Either way, the proposals you receive are the real data for your garage, and the checklists on the service pages are how to read them.

No. The site cites named studies, like the 2022 CRAFTSMAN survey by Atomik Research, when it needs a population-level figure.
Each poll accepts one vote per browser. The results update as votes come in and are shown as percentages with the vote count so you can judge how much weight a small sample deserves.
No. Votes are anonymous and are not linked to the request form or to any account. The site stores only the option chosen and a marker to prevent repeat votes from the same browser.
Because surprises are where budgets break. Old coatings found under paint, moisture readings over the limit, and cracks that needed more than filling are the common day-one change orders. Seeing how often other visitors hit them is a nudge to ask about each at the site visit.
The polls are revised periodically based on which questions visitors ask most on the request form. If a decision you faced is missing, the contact page is the place to mention it.
No. Matching is by location and the service you request. Poll votes are not connected to the request form and do not affect who receives your details.
Lightly. A poll shows what a few hundred visitors chose; a published figure like NAHB's 65% two-car share of new homes is drawn from Census data with a defined method. Use the polls for perspective and the statistics for planning.
